 2017 Preview 


       Dallas County completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region three, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Dallas County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Beauregard by a score of 41-0.

       The Hornets last playoff victory came during the 2002 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Dallas County has gone a combined 22-50. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 5A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Dallas County has managed to compile a record of 105-158. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 5A and 278th in the AHSAA.

Marty Smith leaves Dallas County after three seasons with a 15-17 record and 0-2 in the playoffs.


Clifford Matthews arrives at Dallas County after serving the past few seasons as the defensive coordinator at Selma. He was hired in mid July just before fall practice began at the school.



       The Dallas County Hornets will play in Class 5A region three during the 2017 season.

       The Hornets will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season.

      Senior Calvin Starks Jr. returns after rushing for 1,230 yards on 159 carries and scoring 14 touchdowns.

      Junior Anthonie Rubin also returns after rushing for 402 yards on 97 carries and scoring 2 touchdowns.

      The defense returns Senior linebacker Kenchavious James who registered 80 tackles and five sacks last season.

       The Hornets open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent McAdory on Friday, September 1 at Martin Field. Last year the McAdory Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 6A region four. The Yellow Jackets lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Blount by a score of 27-25.

       Dallas County and McAdory have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 0-6-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2016 with McAdory winning by a score of 33-7.
